Punjab sanctions over `53 cr for e-dist plan

Punjab is all set to cover all its districts under the e-district plan as it is gearing up to computerise all district offices by the year-end. `53.34 crore has already been approved for implementation of the e-District project in remaining 20 districts.

As of now, the e-district projects are running successfully in two districts — Kapurthala and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) — on pilot basis.

With the implementation of the project, it would entail total backend computerisation of district and tehsil level offices to ensure electronic delivery of high volume 47 citizen centric services, including services related to ration card, birth or death registration, pensions, arms licences, marriage certificates and certificates including those for residence, caste, etc, revenue department, among others.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Friday issued instructions to link all services to central data server for proper integration of all services, while reviewing the implementation of e-district plan in a meeting of Governance Reforms Department.

He said that e-district project had ensured faster, simplified, cost effective, timely, and convenient over-the-counter delivery of services.

Issuing directives for online application of 47 services, Sukhbir said that by November this year, every citizen in the State should be able to apply these services from their homes.

Stressing upon the need for total transparent system, Sukhbir asked Secretary, Governance Reforms to incorporate SMS services as a part of the software, under which every applicant on submission of application would get an SMS indicating the delivery date of his or her service.

“If the service of the citizen was ready before the said date, the SMS should inform the applicant about that,” he added.
