In the process of filling more than 1,200 permanent posts of patwaris, Punjab Government has decided to recruit retired patwaris in the Revenue Department on contractual basis, for the time being.
A few days back, the State Revenue Patwar Union had met Revenue Minister Bikarm Singh Majithia and requested him to make an alternative adjustment till the permanent recruitment process of Patwaris is not completed, keeping in view the public interest.
Majithia said that the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal took an initiative to fill all vacant posts of Patwaris, and the recruitment process was almost completed by the Punjab University for the same, “but due to reports of paper leakage, the recruitment was cancelled”.
“Punjab Government is committed for fair and transparent selection, therefore, now the Guru Nanak Dev University has been assigned to conduct a test on behalf of Punjab Revenue Department. It may take some time to complete the permanent recruitment process but the Department has decided to make alternative arrangements to provide timely and hassle-free revenue services to the people,” he added.
Financial Commissioner Revenue KBS Sidhu, explaining the conditions for recruitment of Patwaris, said that the Department will recruit Patwaris on contract basis, who are between the age of 60-65 years.
“Deputy Commissioners have been authorised to recruit patwaris on contractual basis. Application shall be permitted only in the district from which Patwari or Kanungo had retired,” he said.
