The Punjab Government on Thursday enhanced the amount of compensation for the rape and murder victims and their dependents.
Maximum compensation of Rs 3 lakh would be given to rape victims, while up to Rs 4 lakh would be given to relatives of those murdered after sexual assault, an official spokesman said.
Earlier, the compensation amount was Rs 2 lakh for rape victims and Rs 3 lakh for rape-cum-murder. Besides, the State Government also gives compensation of Rs 50,000 to victims of human trafficking, child abuse and kidnapping, Rs 10,000 to simple loss or injury to child victims and Rs 20,000 to rehabilitation of women and children, he said.
The spokesman said that Rs 3 lakh was given to victim of acid attack in case of disfigurement of face and Rs 50,000 for other cases and injuries.
