Punjab Police, through its community policing wing, on Tuesday launched a campaign to paste reflective stickers on all slow moving vehicles especially tractor and trolleys. The move was aimed at avoiding accidents on the highways thereby saving precious human lives.

In the recent past, several people have lost their lives so far due to late night collision between vehicles and tractor-trolleys on the highways.

“lack of reflectors on slow moving vehicles, being used particularly in Rabi and Kharif season for bringing agri-products in state mandis, results in major accidents and loss of human lives,” said an official spokesperson.

He said that before the start of ongoing Rabi season, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora had directed the Community Policing Wing to rope in Saanjh committees constituted throughout the State to take up this noble cause with twin purposes of making these vehicles safer besides sensitizing the rural populace about the importance of required reflective stickers on their vehicles. Spokesperson revealed that the initial target has been fixed for one lakh such reflective stickers. Till date, 34,000 reflector stickers have been pasted and the campaign was going on full swing.

Giving district-wise details, the spokesperson informed that maximum 4,000 reflective stickers have been pasted in Patiala district followed by 3,600 each in Amritsar (City), Batala, Ferozepur, Barnala and Pathankot.
