Punjab Police Foils Grenade Attack Plot; Arrests 5

Punjab Police on Wednesday claimed to thwart a potential grenade attack on police establishments by arresting five members of a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module being operated by foreign-based gangster Jiwan Fauji. The arrests were made during a swift operation carried out by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police, as part of the state’s ongoing crackdown on terror activities to ensure public safety.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that the arrested individuals were part of a terror module backed by Pakistan's ISI and managed remotely by Jiwan Fauji from abroad. The accused have been identified as Naresh Kumar alias Babbu, Abhinav Bhagat alias Abhi, Ajay Kumar alias Ajju, Sunny Kumar — residents of Haripura in Amritsar; and a 17-year-old juvenile. Police recovered a hand grenade, a .32 bore country-made pistol, and five live cartridges from their possession.

Yadav revealed that the accused were radicalized and tasked with retrieving weapon consignments from the Ajnala sector. Their primary mission was to carry out grenade attacks on police targets. The accused were also provided with motorcycles and logistical support by their handlers to execute planned strikes.
