Alarmed by the intelligence inputs, the Punjab Police has put the State on high alert, in the wake of the festive season.

The State police chief Suresh Kumar has issued strict directions to all the Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), Range IG,s DIG, and senior other police officers to beef up the security in their respective areas, and remain on alert.

The Director General of Police (DGP) has also asked the SSPs to go through the records of all the criminals, besides increasing patrolling, installing nakas, and cordoning off the areas.

The directions, to beef up the security in the wake of Diwali and Kali Puja celebrations, were issued after the state authorities received intelligence inputs “received from central agency” that terrorist outfit, Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) has plans “to trigger explosions during the festival season at several places in Punjab”.

The inputs further revealed that the planned terrorist attacks could involve “throwing of hand grenades”.

Issuing the directions, it was also informed that a series of reliable inputs indicate that the Khalistani terrorist groups, in collusion with the Pakistan’s ISI, and Jammu and Kashmir based Jehadi groups are planning to carry out terrorist strikes in Punjab.

The terror module, busted recently by the Punjab Police, have also revealed the designs of Pak ISI, along with Khalistani terrorist elements and J&K based militant groups, to target sensitive places in Punjab, especially during the ongoing festive season.

It has been asked to take special caution and strict watch on the crowded places in all cities and towns of the State.
