Punjab not getting its due: CM

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday bemoaned that despite making maximum contribution to country’s freedom struggle and making India self-reliant in food-grain, Punjab was getting step-motherly treatment.

The Chief Minister, speaking after unfurling the National Flag in ludhiana during a State-level function to mark country’s 67th Independence Day, blamed successive Governments at the Centre for not giving Punjab its due. “Punjab does not receive due recognition and funds from the Central Government, despite its major contribution to the freedom struggle. Punjab has borne the onslaught of wars on the western front,” said Badal.

He credited the State Government with ensuring that Maoism, terrorism and communalism were not allowed to raise their ugly heads in Punjab. Badal also called upon the people to avow for eradicating social evils of drug addiction, female foeticide, and dowry on one hand, and checking environmental degradation on the other, to ensure ‘Punjab as a clean, green and pollution free State’.

Sukhbir warns nefarious elements against creating disturbance in Punjab Mohali: Reiterating his Government's resolve to maintain peace in the State, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday warned the anti-national elements against creating any disturbance. “We have got peace in the State after a decade of sustained efforts of our police forces and nobody would be allowed to fiddle with it,” he said while addressing a gathering after unfurling the national flag at an Independence Day function in Mohali.

lauding the role of security forces, Sukhbir said that there was no major terror attack in the state “as our police force could take preemptive and preventive measures busting three major militant modules in the recent past”.
