Punjab leaders dub Kejriwal’s act of tearing Farm Bills as ‘nautanki’

Punjab’s political leaders on Thursday dubbed Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal’s act of tearing copies of the Centre’s three “anti-farmers” bills in Delhi Assembly as “nautanki”.

While the Congress leader and Punjab Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla asserted that Kejriwal’s “nautanki won’t help cover up AAP’s U-turn on farm laws”, SAD MP from Bathinda and former Union Minister Harsimrat Badal condemned AAP leader for “insulting the farmer struggle with cheap theatrics”.

“Kejriwal’s latest ‘nautanki’ in the Delhi Assembly is yet another desperate attempt to cover up his party’s shocking U-turn on the farm laws and his government’s abject failure to protect the interests of the farmers,” said Singla, adding that Delhi Chief Minister was playing to the galleries.

Singla said that these theatrics will not help stop the implementation of one of the legislations which the AAP Government in the national capital had itself notified less than a month ago. “Kejriwal’s pathetic attempt to play to public sentiment had only exposed him further as a first-class fraud who has no qualms about pretending to be concerned about the plight of the farmers while actually stabbing them in the back without an iota of shame,” said Singla. The Minister warned that mere frivolous gestures or antics, such as fasting and tearing off the central legislation copies in the House, won’t help AAP win the confidence of the farmers, who are battling the shivering cold and Covid with their lives virtually at Kejriwal’s doorstep. Meanwhile, Harsimrat said that Delhi Chief Minister was known as a “dramabaaz”, but this time, he had indulged in unparalleled hypocrisy by tearing the same laws in the Vidhan Sabha which he had notified on November 23.

Asking Kejriwal to have mercy on the farmers, she said that it was strange that the Delhi Chief Minister had only suddenly discovered that farmers were sitting out in the open in cold wave conditions and that more than 20 farmers had passed away.

“The Delhi Chief Minister is only shedding crocodile tears in a desperate bid to wipe away the blot he has put on his name by rushing to notify the farm laws on the directions of the Central Government. These dramas however won’t help. Farmers know that Kejriwal and AAP have never supported their struggle and that Kejriwal has always danced to the tune of the Central Government,” she added.
