Punjab Government has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with e-Governance Foundation (e-Gov) of Nandan Nilekani regarding the managing of electronic governance of Urban local Bodies (UlBs) throughout Punjab.
With this, a total of 67 services would be provided online within a span of one year under 12 modules — that are property tax, water and sewerage management, complaints and grievance, licensing, fire service, verification, birth and death, UlB web portal, mobile application, state and UlB dashboards, payroll and financial accounting.
“Punjab Government is fully committed to make good its promise of delivering the citizen centric services to the people of the state in a transparent and smooth manner so as to ensure that they don't have to make rounds of government offices to avail the same,” said the state local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on the occasion of inking of an MoU.
listing other path breaking measures, Sidhu said that with the assistance of the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), the Department will go in for the beautification as well as cleaning of seven kms long Tungdhab Nallah in Amritsar — a project worth Rs five crore, and Jamalpur STP along with Budhha Nallah in ludhiana in the initial phase.
“After getting successful results, the initiative would be replicated throughout the state,” he said, adding that the work on cleaning and beautification of Tungdhab Nallah in Amritsar would begin before March 16.
Sidhu said that the project worth Rs 31 crore, with regard to Budhha Nallah, would first be presented to the Cabinet for necessary clearance.
He also batted for adopting the model already adopted and executed with aplomb by noted environmentalist Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal in this regard.
Sidhu also elaborated that the Amritsar dump, which has been in existence since the past two decades, would be cleaned up during the course of next three years and a scientific study spanning two months would be undertaken in this connection.
Sounding a warning note to those indulging in environmental pollution, Sidhu said that those establishments or concerns excreting the untreated water and other waste would be strictly dealt with in accordance with the law
