Acting on the representation filed by the Aam Aadmi Party leader and Punjab party affairs’ co in-charge Raghav Chadha requesting an impartial investigation by the Punjab Police into the “multi-layered” illegal sand mining scam, Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit has directed the state police chief to conduct an investigation “at the highest level”.

The Principal Secretary to the Governor, JM Balamurugan has written a letter to the Punjab DGP VK Bhawra communicating that the Governor has directed him to request the police chief “to have an investigation done on this matter at the highest level. Action taken on this matter may kindly be intimated to this office”.

Welcoming the Governor’s decision, Chadha said that AAP had submitted a letter to the Governor on January 24, and demanded an inquiry against the Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. Chadha thanked the Governor for accepting AAP’s demand hoping that the Punjab Police would conduct a fair and independent investigation in the matter and punish the guilty.

Referring to the letter related to the order of inquiry, Chadha said that the Governor has taken cognizance of the matter and has ordered DGP VK Bhawra to take action against illegal sand mafia in CM’s constituency Chamkaur Sahib's village Jindapur.

“Governor has asked the DGP to conduct a high level inquiry into illegal sand mining and hand over the report to him,” said Chadha while appealing to the DGP and Punjab Police not to come under any kind of political pressure and register an FIR against Chief Minister Channi after conducting a fair and independent investigation into the whole matter.
