Waking up from a deep slumber after loosing several innocent lives almost everyday on state roads, the Punjab Government has decided to lay more stress on the road safety campaign across the State in an effective manner.
To check road accidents in the State for saving precious life of the people, the Punjab Government would supercharge the road safety campaign by educating the drivers, students and other road users.
“The rate of road accidents taking place in the state, despite excellent road infrastructure, is very high as every year almost 4,000 persons are killed in these accidents, beside huge loss of property. So, it is imperative to control these accidents,” said a spokesman of Punjab Government.
Spokesman said that high speed vehicles, non-compliance of rules, overloading and ignorance towards the road safety are the main cause for the accidents.
“It is the high time to change the mindset of the drivers so that they could have total control on their vehicles by limiting the speed according to the rules. Although the drivers are well aware of these rules, they are ignoring them while driving,” he added.
In order to educate the drivers, students and other road users, it was appropriate time to boost the road safety campaign with big way, he said.
For the purpose, the seminars and other mode of educating the people are going on in the state. But, taking the issue of increasing road accidents very seriously, Punjab Government has directed the concerned departments to drive the road safety campaign with effective and result oriented manner.
