Punjab Government has decided to investigate the alleged human trafficking by the “illegal” IELTs or Immigration Centres under the garb of education visas.
Ordering the probe into the same, Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Wednesday directed the concerned officers to seek a detailed monitoring report on all the IELTs or Immigration Centres from the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to know about the total number of IELTs coaching centres and the number of Immigration Centres in their respective districts.
At the same time, the Minister said that the State Government will soon revive the NRI Sabhas across the State. Pertinently, NRI Sabhas provide support to Punjabis of Indian origin residing abroad and face the constraint of inability to be physically present at all times in India to follow up their personal cases and redress their grievances.
The Minister, chairing a review meeting with the senior officers of the Department, said that the Punjab Government is committed for the welfare of Non-Residents of India (NRIs) from Punjab.
He added that more Police Stations for NRIs will be established in the state and extra force would be deployed for speedy resolution of their complaints.
