Punjab Govt to look into complaints on misuse of post matric scholarship

The Congress-led Punjab Government will look in all complaints regarding misuse of post-matric scholarship funds by the previous SAD-BJP Government “thoroughly”.

Asserting this, the State Punjab Power and Irrigation Minister Rana Gurjit Singh on Friday said that to deal such kind of matters, the State Government has already announced the third party audit in financial matters.

Rana Gurjit, addressing a gathering at State level function to mark the 126th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar after dedicating the statue of Baba Saheb at DAC, said that the post-matric scholarship to the SC students would be provided on time as per its commitment in the election manifesto for assembly polls 2017.

He said that the true tribute to the Baba Saheb would be by imparting education to the weaker sections of the society.

Minister has also announced that free education will be provided up to graduation level to all girl students belonging to SCs, BCs, Christians, Muslim communities and those living below the poverty line.  In a major welfare step for the SC community, he said that the Punjab Government would provide free electricity up to 300 units to the SC families.

The state government is fully committed to fulfill its promises made in the election manifesto including five marla plots to the SC families, and “to speed up that process, the government has already sought the requirements from officials at the bottom level”, he said.

To build an equitable and more homogenous society in Punjab, greater thrust will be given on social equality and the government would not tolerate the atrocities against SCs in the State.

Earlier, Congress’ local MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh said that only the Governments of Congress party had worked to uplift the deprived sections in Punjab and the Government would provide sufficient funds to enthuse research work by the chairs in the universities on the name of Baba Saheb.

He also read out the message on birth anniversary of Baba Saheb on behalf of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.
