The Punjab Government has released a fund of Rs21 crore earmarked for the mid-day meal scheme in the State for the month of October.

The Centrally-funded scheme is being run in Moga, Sangrur, and Ajitgarh (Mohali) districts of the State with the assistance of NGOs, an official spokesperson said on Monday.

The State Government has now decided to extend it to Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Patiala districts from November 1, besides 41 more schools of Ajitgarh on the proposal of school principals, he added.

In these three new districts, the scheme will be implemented under contract system on the lines of that being run in Mohali.

“This amount is released for the month of October, out of which the honorarium to cooks-cum-helpers would also be given for the month of October,” said the spokesman.
