Punjab employees to hold dharnas to force Govt to deliver on its promises

The Employee Wing Punjab — a representative body of Government employees and pensioners of the State — on Monday announced to hold dharnas in different parts of the state to force the Congress Government to accept employees’ demands including release of their DA and regularization of contractual employees.

“Capt Amarinder Singh led Congress Government is deliberately delaying meeting the demands of employees and pensioners despite the assurances of fulfilling them immediately after coming into power.

The government has reneged on all promises it made to the employees and pensioners of the state,” said the state president of the employees’ body Karamjit Singh Bhagrana.

Giving details of the protest strategy being adopted by the employees’ body, Bhagrana said that in the first phase, three dharna will be held at Fazilka, Ludhiana and Phagwara on September 4, 11 and 14, respectively.

“We will remind the deaf government that nothing was done by it to fulfil our demands like release of DA instalments, implementation of sixth pay commission report, regularization of 30,000 contractual employees and removal of professional tax.

We will escalate our agitation in days to come if our genuine demands are not met immediately,” he said.
