Punjab cops raid pharmaceutical units at Roorkee

A day after busting second multi-crore Delhi-based synthetic drug racket, Punjab Police’s investigations into the case led to searches being conducted in pharmaceutical units at Roorkee in Uttar Pradesh after obtaining search warrants from a Patiala court. More seizures of precursor chemicals and synthetic drugs are expected.

Punjab police arrested Varinder Singh alias Raja from New Delhi on December 8, and Hrang Tin Khara alias Robert on  December 10. “Investigations have revealed operational details about synthetic drug racket in Myanmar and other foreign countries which are being developed and would be shared with concerned authorities through the Counter Intelligence Wing of the Punjab Police,” said Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hardyal Singh Mann.

He informed that names of several women based in Myanmar who were figuring in the drug racket have also been revealed.  “A female operative, lalumi, who was reportedly based in Khampat Myanmar, was in active touch with Robert and Varinder Raja and made at least six trips to India to obtain contraband consignments and further ship them to recipient parties on the Myanmar-China border. She was in her mid-40s and in traditional clothes business as her cover,” he added.

Mann said that it has also been revealed that contraband consignments were transported from New Delhi to Imphal by air cargo mainly in morning flights and would also be sent by road through trucks via Guwahati. “From Imphal, the contrabands would be transported by road to Tamu on the Myanmar border,” he added.

Ajay Jain and Rajesh Bansal, who were arrested from New Delhi, were produced in a Patiala court on Friday which has granted their police custody for four days up to December 16.  “All the five arrested persons — Suresh Kumar alias Mainga, Varinder Singh alias Raja, Hrang Tin Khara alias Adam Zanniat alias Robert, Rajesh Kumar Bansal, and Ajay Jain would now be produced in court on December 16. Further investigations are going on,” the SSP added.
