Punjab Congress on Thursday announced to gherao Bhawanigarh police station on Wednesday if the arrested Dalit people are not released by the police.
The announcement was made by the Congress legislative Party (ClP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi, while participating in the protest dharna by Dalits in Balad Kalan village.
Channi blasted on the Akali Dal Government because of the inhuman attitude of the police with the women and the men who were peacefully demonstrating.
Assuring the people that Congress party will sit with them till their demands are fulfilled and fight for their cause, Channi demanded immediate registration of the cases against those police officials who are responsible for this ghastly act.
“One-third of panchayat land, which is for the SC community of the village, should be given to them on reserve price and not through auction, as it is not transparent,” he said adding that the Congress would form a law for the fixation of charges of this land in villages which is meant for the SCs of the village.
Channi also blamed that the land was taken by goons of the ruling Government in connivance with the local authorities thus depriving the SCs of the village from their fundamental right.
Congress party will take up this issue in its party manifesto for the forthcoming elections also and after forming the Government, we will enforce it practically, he said adding that the Congress also wants that the Dalits should make a cooperative society and manage the agriculture land together.
