Punjab Cong extends support to farmers for Nov 19 ‘Victory Day’ celebrations

Punjab Congress on Thursday extended its support to the farmers for ‘Victory Day’ celebrations, scheduled on November 19, to mark the completion of one year of the withdrawal of Centre’s three controversial farm laws.

At the same time, the party suggested that along with the ‘Victory Day’ celebrations, the farmers should also observe it as a “Betrayal Day” as the BJP Government at the Centre had betrayed the farmers and completely backed out of all the commitments it had made to them before they lifted their dharna.

“While November 19 will always be remembered as a day of victory; sadly, it has turned out to be a day of betrayal as well as the BJP government has completely betrayed the farmers,” said Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.

He announced that like always, the Congress party will continue to support and stand by the farmers till the promises made by the Government of India, a year ago, are not fulfilled. “We will not let them back out, come what may,” he asserted.

Also questioning the silence of the Aam Aadmi Party Government on the issue, Warring pointed out that AAP was in power in Punjab for eight months but it had never raised the matter with the Government of India during this period.

SAD demands immediate revocation of red entries made in land records of farmers

Demanding immediate revocation of red entries made in the land records of thousands of farmers, SAD leader and former Minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Thursday defended the farmers while blaming the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab Government saying that the farmers had burnt paddy stubble only after the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann failed to compensate them for the cost incurred in managing the stubble.  Asserting that SAD stood with the beleaguered peasantry, Majithia announced that the party would oppose collection of penalties imposed on farmers besides launching a sustained campaign in case the red entries in land records were not revoked.
