Punjab Congress on Wednesday demanded immediate release of one lakh tubewell connections to farmers, demand notices of which were allegedly distributed by Akali MlAs and ‘halqa’ in-charges “for cheap political gains” before lok Sabha polls. “In what could be termed as cheapest political gimmickry, the Badal government, bypassing rules and norms, had illegitimately authorized its MlAs and halqa in-charges to distribute one lakh demand notices for tubewell connections to farmers which were generally sent through registered post to the applicants by respective Sub-Divisional offices of the power department,” said former MlA Sukhpla Khaira.
