Taking to task the SAD-BJP Government for its failure to pay installments of Dearness Allowance (DA) to its employees due from January and July this year, besides the delay in payment of 30 per cent arrear of Fifth Pay Commission, Punjab Congress on Thursday demanded an emergency session of Vidhan Sabha to discuss State’s financial position.
“Punjab Government is not in position to pay employees’ salaries who may be forced to observe a black Diwali. It is ironical that Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa has asked the employees to either get DA installment or arrear of their Pay Commission dues,” said Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa.
He said that Punjab’s present economic situation was own creation of SAD-BJP Government. “The mismanagement of resources, rampant corruption in Government, overspending and non-productive expenditure, heavy top brass of police and bureaucracy, ineffective revenue collection and tax evasion are some of the basic reasons for Government’s poor economic performance,” said Bajwa.
Bajwa said that Finance Minister had accepted that Punjab’s economy was in shambles and State Government has no funds to meet the day to day expenses.
He further demanded “to shut down loss-making Boards and Corporations and remove all Chief Parliamentary Secretaries to over the financial crisis”.
