Punjab Cong chief sees hope in PM Modi’s RS speech on Azad

Commenting on the sentiments expressed by PM Narendra Modi during the farewell function of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Nabi Azad, Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday said that Modi’s response has raised hopes, that he would soon put aside his arrogance and will finally listen to the agitating farmers’ voice who are losing precious lives every day during the current farmers’ struggle.

“The manner in which PM Narendra Modi has, for the first time, risen above the party ranks in the Rajya Sabha and expressed his sentiments towards Ghulam Nabi Azad has raised hopes that Modi, who has so far taken a hard line on farmers for his own important reasons, will continue to show his humane face in the days to come,” said Jakhar.

Jakhar said that he hoped that Modi would not only remember the virtues of Ghulam Nabi Azad but also bring in the same pro-people qualities in his character and would not bring shame to the Prime Minister’s office by naming those who fought for the public interest in a democracy as ‘agitators’.

At the same time, Jakhar also questioned the Prime Minister by pointing that he and the great leaders of his party have also agitated on different occasions and they also may have been getting ideological support from home and abroad, but has any Prime Minister of the country till date ever termed them as ‘FDI’ (foreign destructive ideology)?

“There is no doubt that the BJP led Central Government haw only changed the names of the cities or the schemes run by the Congress Government but had failed in getting Foreign Direct Investment in the country. In fact, it has instead changed its entire definition,” he said adding that instead of changing the term, Modi should learn from Dr Manmohan Singh the virtues of success in this direction.

Concluding, Jakhar said that still the Congress party has always been positive, and, therefore, due to the astonishing attitude shown by the Prime Minister today, “I hope that Modi would maintain this positive attitude being instilled in him and soon the three black laws will be withdrawn after sympathetically considering the demands of the farmers”.
