Punjab Cong accuses SAD of indulging in politics on SYl

Published on:

Punjab Congress on Friday alleged Shiromani Akali Dal of indulging in “politics” over the sensitive issue of Satluj-Yamuna link (SYl) canal SYl issue instead of finding a solution to it.

The party has, in fact, asked the Akali Dal to approach the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve the age-old issue.

“SAD president Sukhbir Badal’s recent statement asking the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to not to go and talk to the Prime Minister on SYl issue as that may go against Punjab reflects that SAD has lost all its faith in its alliance partner BJP. They should immediately pull out of the NDA,” said Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar.

Jakhar said rather than giving controversial statements over the issue, Sukhbir should meet the Prime Minister to find a solution to SYl and apprise him of the fact that Punjab is not having water to share with Haryana.

At the same time, he also appreciated the Centre and Modi for seeking six-week time to resolve the SYl issue. “Sukhbir is saying that there should be no talks with the Centre or Haryana as if he has no faith in its ally, the BJP…But if the issue is resolved by the Centre, we are ready to give credit to the PM,” he added.

Jakhar also reminded Sukhbir of the resolution proposal passed during the previous SAD-BJP government, in which he had sought the Prime Minister's intervention to resolve the SYl issue.
