Punjab Congress has accused the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for misleading the Vidhan Sabha on the issue of Bluestar Memorial erected at Amritsar’s Golden Temple.
“Badal should stand by his statement on the floor of House that the memorial in the memory of Operation Bluestar will be a simple Gurdawara and no photographs of any individual would be displayed there,” said Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Fateh Singh Bajwa.
He added that Congress was keeping an eye on the developments related to martyr’s memorial and if need be will approach the Central Government to take appropriate steps.
Expressing worry over the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab, Bajwa indicated that nobody will be allowed to disturb the peace of state, and Congress was aware of consequences of eulogizing the separatist elements.
Further, Bajwa said that controversy over martyrs’ memorial had exposed Badal’s double standards. “On June 20, he had assured the Vidhan Sabha that no portrait will be displayed in the memorial and it will come up as a small Gurdawara inside the complex. Badal should now clarify his position on the issue,” said he while blaming SAD’s ally — the BJP —for maintaining silence over “this important issue”.
