Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is not surprised over State’s former Director General of Police (Prisons) Shashi Kant’s allegations of impious nexus of politicians, police, and the drug mafia. “I am not surprised over his statement. Retired officers often have grudges against the Government and that’s why former DGP Kant is making such allegations against the Government now,” that’s how Badal reacted when asked about former top cop’s allegations.
On the other hand, Jail Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur said that Kant was making such allegations as his security cover has been clipped. “Had there been any such thing, Shashi Kant could have informed me while he was yet to retire,” he said. The 1977-batch Punjab cadre retired officer had recently alleged that local police, custom officers, politicians and the officers of the Border Security Force (BSF) are hand-in-glove for boosting the illegal trade of narcotics. He took everyone by storm by claiming that he had prepared a list including 10 names of top politicians and social activists who were alleged to be the kingpin of the drug racket running in the State.
