Published on:

launching the second phase of its much-touted Ghar-Ghar Rozgar scheme, Punjab Government on Thursday claimed to have whopping 45,747 jobs on offer for the unemployed youth of the State.

For the second phase of mega job melas, organised by the State Government from February 20 to March 8, a total of 1,689 employers have posted 45,747 job vacancies on the portal — www.ghargharrozgar.punjab.gov.in .

As many as 73,200 applicants have registered on the portal in the hope of getting their employment letters at 140 events being conducted at 56 venues as part of these fairs, being held in collaboration with Industry, Educational Institutes, Universities and Sector Skill Council.

Appealing to the unemployed youth of the State to participate in maximum numbers to make the most of this opportunity, the state’s Finance and Employment Generation Minister Manpreet Singh Badal said that job seekers, with any type of qualifications, can register and appear for placement. Final year students can also register for participating in these job melas, he added.

Approximately 4,500 job vacancies have been posted under the category of Sector Skill Council, where jobs would be provided on the basis of skills acquired by the job seeker through skill training, said the spokesperson adding that majority of these jobs are in the area of hospitality, beauty and wellness and tourism.

Elaborating on the portal launched by the state government to facilitate the employment drive, the spokesperson said that its objective was to provide a one-stop interactive platform for the job seekers and employers. Unlike private job portals, registration and access to this portal is free for both, job seekers and employers.

Registration on portal is a user-friendly two-step process, which enables the job seekers to generate a hall ticket to appear before the employer for interview.

“While uploading their qualification, skill or experience, the job seekers can shortlist the employer, who can also shortlist the job seekers as per their requirement. The portal automatically shows the relevant jobs to the job seekers while matching their skills, education or experience,” said the spokesperson.

The portal is especially designed to assist job seekers who are school drop-outs or have low level of education or skills. Such job seekers can opt for short-term skilling or skill upgradation programmes for better employability prospects, said the spokesperson adding that private job portals do not cater to such job applicants.

Mobile application of the portal would be available shortly, thus further facilitating the employment agenda of the government and enabling the unemployed youth and prospective employers to come together with even greater ease.
