The ongoing membership drive in Punjab has been a huge hit with the BJP crossing the 20-lakh mark, according to Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma. In a statement on Saturday, Sharma said the party would celebrate this achievement across the State.
“The overwhelming response of the people to the membership drive only shows that the BJP’s base in Punjab has increased manifold. More than 50 per cent members are from the Sikh community and are from the rural areas. This clearly indicates that the BJP’s base in the rural areas has also increased,” said the State BJP chief. He said the membership drive started on November 17 has been a successful one with the BJP becoming the largest political party in the world as people from all walks of life, all regions all castes and all areas joined in.
Also, Sharma praised the BJP workers for their hard work in convincing people to join the party. Terming them as heroes, he said, “It was the worker at the grassroots who took the message of the party to the common man in order to project the party.” The party would cross the 21-lakh mark soon before the membership ends on April 31, 2015, Sharma further added.
