Punjab BJP celebrates Ambedkar's birth anniv at 114 places

Published on:

Punjab unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday organized programmes at 114 places, both in urban and rural areas, across the state on the occasion of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

As the saffron party took Dr Ambedkar’s ideology to the people by spreading his vision and providing an insight to his life full of struggle to the common masses through these programmes,  the Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) completed the formality by merely garlanding his statues, said Rajya Sabha MP and the state BJP president Shwait Malik.

Malik said, “After forming the Government in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated welfare schemes for economic, social and educational upliftment of the Dalits. At the same time, Modi amended the SC/ST Act, made it more stringent to stop atrocities against them. The Congress, instead, used the Dalits as its vote bank and exploited them for 70 long years, resulting in their backwardness.”

Giving detailed information, BJP general secretary and senior Dalit leader Kewal Kumar said that maximum 11 programmes were organized at 21 places in Tarn Taran, followed by 11 in Hoshiarpur, 10 each in Mukerian and Amritsar Urban, eight in Ferozepur, seven in Sangrur-I, six in Sangrur-II, and so on.

The state BJP chief Shwait Malik was present at the program in ludhiana, while among the former state presidents Madan Mohan Mittal attended the event at Ropar, Manoranjan Kalia at Jalandhar, Prof Rajinder Bhandari at ludhiana, Ashwini Sharma at Pathankot and Kamal Sharma took charge in Ferozepur.
