Waking up from a deep slumber after repeated incidents claiming lives of school children owing to violations by school buses, the Punjab Government on Friday directed the authorised transport operators in the State to adhere to every safety guideline while ferrying school children.

At the same time, the State Government has also made it clear that there would be zero tolerance towards any lapses in this regard.“Strict action would be initiated against any erring drivers as well as the transport company whose vehicle is involved in an offence. If held responsible, the transport company would have its licence cancelled,” said an official spokesman.

Taking serious note of the fatal incidents, the Punjab Government has also directed the transport authorities to ensure the fitness of the vehicles and directed them to be strict in keeping a vigil on the regulation of speed of the vehicles on roads. The divers should be fully trained and carrying the complete papers while moving out, he added.

Further, the spokesman added that the Government has also directed the buses and auto rickshaw owners not to take school students’ beyond the allowed capacity of the vehicle.
