To utilize about one lakh ton of paddy straw annually and produce 33.23 ton of Bio-CNG per day, the Punjab Government on Friday approved Rs 71.68 crore Bio-CNG Project of capacity 80,000-cum-biogas per day (33.23 ton of Bio-CNG per day) which is equivalent to 6.7 MW electrical, based on paddy straw for allotment.
The decision has been taken in the meeting of Project Allotment Committee held under the chairmanship of the state Principal Secretary for New and Renewable Energy Sources (NRES) Anirudh Tewari.
“The project, being facilitated by Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), is to be set up by Verbio India Private limited (100 percent subsidiary of Verbio Vereinigte Bioenergie AG, Germany) under NRSE Policy-2012 at Bhutal Kalan village of lehragaga tehsil, in Sangrur district with 100 percent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI),” said Tiwari.
He said that the project will utilize about one lakh ton of paddy straw annually and produce 33.23 ton of Bio-CNG per day. In addition, it will produce Bio-manure about 1.44 lakh ton annually.
Tiwari said that this project will generate direct employment for about 60 numbers of technical and non-technical persons and indirect employment of about 2,000 persons.
The raw material requirement for project will create a local supply chain, which will generate employment resources in rural areas and stop the negative effects of burning the paddy straw, he added.
