In a unique initiative, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has provided a dedicated website link of Indian Judiciary on the website of Consulate General of India, Toronto, Canada — www.cgi.toronto.ca — for the benefit of NRIs.
The link would provide access to links of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Supreme Court of India, National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG), High Courts of India, District Courts of India, e-Courts Services Mobile Application for Android, e-Courts Services Mobile Application of iOS and help videos.
Now, NRIs can obtain information pertaining to matters pending in Indian Courts by accessing the dedicated link.
“The initiative is aimed at creating e-awareness amongst the NRIs regarding e-Court services being provided by eCommittee. The information shall be provided wherever mobile numbers and e-Mail IDs are given,” said the High Court’s Computer Committee chairman Justice Rajesh Bindal.
Notably, the Central Government has launched first phase of eCourts project in 2007 aiming at computerisation of the entire Court system. After successful achievement of the target, the second phase was launched in 2014 with a total outlay of about Rs 2,000 crores.
As the Apex Court’s eCommittee is emphasizing on eAwareness, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has been able to educate Judicial Officers, Advocates, Court Staff and the litigants regarding the eCourts projects as well as the services available on National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) and High Court or District Courts websites.
“eAwareness stalls were put up at International Geeta Mahotsava in November 2017 at Kurukshetra, Surajkund Fair in February 2018 at Faridabad and Baisakhi Fair in April 2018 at Sri Anandpur Sahib, where the visitors were made aware of the services available on NJDG as well as High Court or District Courts websites through pocket size cards or folders,” said the spokesperson.
As a part of eAwareness drive, an interaction was held by the High Court’s Computer Committee chairman Justice Rajesh Bindal with the Heads or Principals of law Departments of Institutions or Universities located within the states of Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh, at Chandigarh Judicial Academy earlier this year.
High Court has also taken initiative to provide information regarding case status and copy of judgments or orders to the litigants belonging to rural areas through Common Service Centres in the states of Punjab, Haryana and U.T. Chandigarh at nominal cost.
