Punjab AAP demands repealing anti-farmer laws

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Punjab unit on Monday staged a massive protest at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding a complete rollback of the three-recently enacted central farm laws.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, besides the party legislators from Punjab and Haryana, Rajya Sabha MPs among others participated in the protest, which was led by Lok Sabha MP from Sangrur and Punjab unit chief Bhagwant Mann.

“AAP has a very clear stance on the farm laws. We want a complete rollback of the three laws. It is non-negotiable,” declared Kejriwal, adding that secondly, a law on MSP (Minimum Support Price) must be brought in the country.

Later, the party’s Punjab and Delhi state leadership and volunteers marched towards the Parliament House raising slogans against the Modi-Captain, the Badals trio, burning copies of the controversial laws.

When the protestors, including Bhagwant Mann, Punjab party affairs in-charge Jarnail Singh, and other party leaders and volunteers stormed the barricades put up by the Delhi police present in great number, the police took Mann, Harpal Singh Cheema, Jarnail Singh and others volunteers, numbering about more than 200, into custody, and were let off after two hours.

Mann, addressing the protestors, said that AAP had been opposing these black laws from day one and would continue to do so till they were reversed.

“We strongly oppose any attempt by the Badals or the Congress to derail the farmers’ struggle and won’t allow them to have their way. I call upon one and all to support farmers’ relentless struggle and save the ‘annadata’ and others associated with agriculture,” he said.

Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema alleged that Punjab Chief Minister and the Badal family were playing politics against these laws and misleading the people of Punjab.
