Punjab State Power Corporation limited (PSPCl), known as Powercom, has constructed 662.217 circuit kilometres transmission (ckt) lines all over the State at a cost of Rs170 crore during 2013-14, PSPCl chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) KD Chaudhri said.
He was presiding over a review meeting of the progress of transmission works completed during
2013-14 with a view to plan and expedite important transmission works for 2014-15. Expressing satisfaction on the progress, CMD said: “Progress of transmission works during 2013-14 had been satisfactory and efforts are on to plan it in such a way that not even a single transformer across Punjab is loaded for more than 80 per cent of its capacity.”
Chaudhri, giving details, said that in the West Zone, 208 ckt lines have been constructed which also included upgradation of 33KV line to 66KV around Abohar and Ferozepur. An expenditure of Rs52 crore was incurred in West Zone, Bathinda, for the purpose. “In north zone, 165 ckt lines have been constructed by spending Rs43 crore. These lines also included upgradation of 33KV lines to 66KV around Nur Mehal and Kapurthala which helped in giving assured and reliable power supply to the consumers of this area,” said the CMD. “In south zone, 129 ckt lines have been constructed at an expenditure of Rs34 crore which has given appreciable relief to the overloaded system and assured quality power supply in the zone.
Chaudhri informed that in the border zone, 76 ckt lines have been constructed at an expenditure of Rs19 crore which has given appreciable relief to the overloaded system around Tarn Taran, Patti, Batala and Amritsar area. New 66KV transmission lines of 70 ckt length are under construction in this area. Capacity of conductor is being enhanced for old existing transmission lines in this area to ensure better quality of the power supply, he added. CMD informed that in central zone, ludhiana, 84 ckt lines have been constructed at an expenditure of Rs22 crore giving relief in area around Khanna, Amloh and Kohara etc. About 60 ckt new lines are under construction in this area including replacement of old conductor. Chaudhri said that PSPCl engineers and officials have not only completed transmission works in time but also worked in difficult terrains to complete the jobs. “To provide relief to about 3,000 agricultural consumers who were not getting adequate power supply because of their land being situated across Ravi river, special foundations were laid by PSPCl engineers for the towers to cross 11 KV line at cost of Rs56 lakhs and reliable 11 KV power supply has reached the area beyond Ravi towards international border,” said Chaudhri.
