Protests held in Haryana, Delhi and Mahapanchayat

Members of various women rights organisations protested outside the Haryana Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday, demanding justice for the Haryana gang-rape survivor and stringent action against the accused.

Protests were also held in various parts of Haryana by Congress and Aam Aadmi Party against the State Government.

“Only one of the (prime) accused has been arrested, while others are still on the run. The police's failure to nab the culprit shows the government's insensitivity towards the issue,” said a member of the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA).

“One of the accused is an Army man. If he can't be punished, what is the credibility of our system all about?” asked Sheena Chibbar from the All India Progressive Women's Association (AIPWA).

The women activists demanded that strict punishment be given to the culprits in all the recent incidents of rape and murder.

“We demand that Nirbhaya centres be established in all the districts of the state and legal help and treatment be provided to all women victims of atrocities. It should be ensured that complaints of women victims are registered and acted upon by police. The activists have pledged to intensify their movement for women safety in the coming days,” another activist said.

The 19 years old college student was gang-raped on September 12 after being kidnapped and sedated.

The women wing of Haryana Congress also held protest in various parts of Haryana and brunt effigy of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar demanding his resignation over the issue of increasing crime against women in the state.

Senior Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda have demanded that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar resign on moral grounds.

Senior Congress leader and communications in-charge of the party, Randeep Singh Surjewala on Monday said that the insensitive and arrogant BJP Government has totally failed to control crimes against the daughters of Haryana.

“We demand that President's rule should be imposed in the state,” he said.

“What is the Haryana Government doing? It seems there is no rule of law and criminals are roaming freely. It is a matter of concern that a small state like Haryana is ahead in the country in gang rape cases,” the Congress leader added.

AAP’s Haryana chief Naveen Jaihind has also condemned the State Government and alleged that ‘Beti Padhao-Beti Bachao’ campaign of the BJP Government has totally flopped.
