Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Sunday said that the procurement of wheat variety HD 2967 is going on smoothly and hassle free throughout Punjab.
Terming the reports that HD 2967 variety is not being purchased in Malwa belt as “baseless and distorting facts”, Ashu informed that this variety is being cultivated by farmers since many years.
He added that Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, has approved this variety and every procurement agency is also procuring this variety in a seamless manner. “The reports from Mansa that this variety is not been purchased are baseless. The few heaps, which were not cleaned under the set specifications, were found there and that’s why there were these reports. We have asked the concerned farmer to bring a cleaned crop,” said the Minister.
The Minister also made it clear that the FCI has not denied to procure any particular type of wheat variety.
He also informed that 750 quintal wheat of HD 2967 variety had been purchased at Dhammu (Mansa) mandi on April 16 and 4500 quintal wheat of this variety was purchased on April 17 in this purchase centre only.
