Probe ordered into inflated sex ratio in Haryana

After terming as baseless and incorrect the media report on State's girl child statistics being inflated, Haryana Government has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

A media report had claimed that the audit by the team of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' observed that the claims of Haryana's improved sex ratio at birth with 950 girls against 1,000 boys in March was false.

The state Health Minister Anil Vij has now ordered an inquiry into the matter. The Minister has written to ACS, Health and sought a report on this.

Anil Vij, while talking to the mediapersons said that the sex ratio data would be reviewed to check if there is any discrepancy. It would be checked with civil surgeons and directions would be issued to prepare the data again, he said.

Haryana, which has been infamous for skewed sex ratio, had recorded sex ratio at 950-- the first time in the history of the state.

As per the government's statistics, Haryana had touched the 950 mark in March 2017.  Narnaul with sex ratio of 1279 girls for 1000 boys had topped the list followed by Palwal with 1217 and Panipat recording sex ratio at 993.

Following a media report that  girl child numbers were misreported by the State Government, it had clarified that the report was totally incorrect to say that the data of any of the districts was being manipulated or inflated. The government had also denied that the remarkable surge in sex ratio was due to dubious numbers.

Haryana, which had the worst sex ratio among states in the 2011 census, was chosen by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch the nationwide ambitious 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' in 2015. Haryana had the lowest child sex ratio of 834 compared to the national average of 919 (according to census of India 2011).
