Punjab Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal on Friday ordered a vigilance inquiry into the role of agents in the issuance of driving licences at Suwidha Centre and District Transport Office in ludhiana.
The inquiry was ordered after Kaushal found many loopholes in the official process during a surprise check in the morning hours. Kaushal visited Suwidha centre and District Transport Office at 9.15 am, where it was found that agents were playing a role in the formation of driving licenses after taking huge money from the people. During checking, many agents left the scene after leaving more than 60 filled forms to make licenses.
On the order of Chief Secretary, all these forms have been seized, on which he has marked a vigilance inquiry.
Kaushal has also issued a warning to the District Transport Officer Anil Garg to put his house in order immediately or face strict departmental and criminal action by the Punjab Government.
Kaushal has also asked the ADC (Development) to regularly monitor the functioning of Suwidha centre so the common man should not face any difficulty. Kaushal, talking to media persons, said that surprise checks would be done in other district also and all efforts would be made to provide citizen services to common man in a hassle-free manner under the Right to Service Act.
