PPCC yet to name candidates, tweets Capt

After a list of Congress’ candidates names for 2017 Punjab polls went viral on the social media, Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday took to microblogging website — Twitter — to clarify that no such list has been announced.

At the same time, he described it as the handiwork of some “mischievous elements to create confusion”.

Denying that the party has announced a list of candidates for the state elections next year reports of which are circulating in the social media, he said: “Circulation of the purported list on social media was the handiwork of some mischievous elements who did not even seem to be familiar with Punjabi pronunciation of names.”

“Unlike other parties, Congress has a proper, transparent and well-established system and procedure for finalizing the candidates,” he said adding that the list of applicants was still with the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) and is being scrutinized.

Capt Amarinder said: “It will be submitted to the high command within a week after which it will be referred to the screening committee and the final decision will be taken by the Central Election Committee (CEC) headed by the Congress president.”

He said that the party will update everyone about the process and also the date when the list will be submitted to the High Command.
