Just as the junior Badal has failed to control the deteriorating law and order as Home Minister, he has proved to be a disaster as Sports Minister as well, alleged Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday.
Bajwa, lashing out at State deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who also holds the portfolios of home and sports, said that the medals winners in national and international games are awaiting their cash awards for the last two and half years.
“SAD-BJP Government has pathetically failed to give the State’s highest sports awards — Maharaja Ranjit Singh Awards, since 2006 to outstanding sportspersons,” alleged Bajwa.
He added saying, “ He has no money to spare for kits of 4,000 trainees admitted in the residential and day-boarding sports wing institutes across Punjab.”
He also said that the man who goes about claiming mega success by organising politicised Kabbadi World Cups, has “totally ignored, forgotten and failed to honour his commitments as a Sports Minister”.
“Although around a whopping Rs11 crore of tax payers money was spent on, flamboyant Bollywood star-studded opening and closing ceremonies of the Kabbadi World Cup, he has no time, interest or money to promote sports in Punjab as head of the department,” alleged Bajwa.
The PPCC chief — Partap Singh Bajwa also stated that the junior Badal grossly faltered to utilize Rs20 crores central grant under the Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA), due to his inability to contribute 25 per cent share of the State.
“As a result, Punjab failed to create new playgrounds in approximately 2,500 villages of the State, and could not buy equipment provided for under the said Central scheme,” he added.
