The power tariff is likely to be reduced in Haryana with the State Government deciding to file a petition before the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) for reducing the applicable Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA) with effect from the current year.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Friday directed the officers of the Power Department to file a petition before the HERC in this regard.

The Chief Minister, who was presiding over a meeting to review functioning of Power Department here said that it would result in reduction in the power bills of all categories of consumers in the State.

It is likely to provide a big relief to the consumers of Haryana who will be enjoying reduction in the power

bills after a long period of time, he said.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government is determined to supply power at low cost to all consumers and with best possible efficiency.

He hoped that there would be further reduction in the power bills of the consumers in the following years. He also hoped that the consumers would respond heartily and pay their power dues in time.

He urged the consumers to not indulge in unscrupulous activities like theft of power. It is with the cooperation of the consumers that the dream of 24x7 power for all at affordable cost would be achieved, he added.

During the review meeting, it was observed that the cost of purchase of power has been kept under check due to forward looking policies of the State Government like rationalization of Coal linkage Policy, third party inspection of Coal and improvement in the quality of coal.

Manohar lal  also directed the Power Utilities to introduce a system to issue monthly power bills for the convenience of the consumers and added that the system be implemented in the entire state in a phased manner.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need to bring down the Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT and C) losses on all industrial feeders to less than three per cent, on all independent feeders to zero per cent and on all urban feeders to less than 15 per cent.

He said that AT &C losses on 263 rural domestic feeders should be brought down to less than 20 per cent under ‘Mhara Gaon Jagmag Gaon’ scheme. These targets should be achieved by June 30 this year and the officers should work in a mission mode, he directed.

He also said that the people were enthusiastic about this scheme and even the Khap Panchayats had offered their support to make it a big success.

The Chief Minister also appreciated the steps taken to computerize the department. He was apprized that under the Rapid Power Reforms Scheme, the entire data of 36 towns of the state has been made online. The remaining towns of the state would be covered within next two-three years.

The Chief Minister also issued a series of directions to the officials of the department for being more responsive to the grievances of the public and improving the operation and management of the system. He also highlighted the resolve of the Government for bringing about complete transparency in the functioning of the Government and for giving a corruption free administrative system.
