Electricity consumers in Haryana will have to shell more from July 1 as the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam have decided to increase power tariff by 30 paisa per unit for Fuel surcharge adjustment (FSA).
This is the second increase in power tariff within a span of 3 months. Earlier, the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) increased it by 13 per cent in May.
DK Maheshwari, Director (Operations) told The Pioneer that input cost during production of electricity is increasing. He said to fill the gap between input cost and income, consumers would have to pay. "At present, we are levying fuel surcharge adjustment on power consumers monthly. Now due to increasing input cost we will have to add around 30 paise per unit per month as Fuel Surcharge Adjustment", he added.
Earlier, fuel surcharge was increased or decreased by the HERC. But the authority was later given to the Nigams so they may earn to cope revenue loss.
According to the sources, the commission had already hit the domestic consumer hard by effecting a 25 per cent hike in the minimum monthly consumption charges (MMC) from the existing Rs80 (up to 2 kilowatt) to Rs 100 (up to 2 kilowatt) and this will just add consumer troubles.
