Just about week after the Congress constituted a two-member committee under former Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Mehtab Singh Gill, to look into the false cases during the SAD-BJP regime’s ten years, Punjab unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday revamped its Human Rights Cell to look into “false” cases registered against its volunteers.
Already, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is in the process of forming a panel of lawyers for looking to vendetta of politics against its workers and supporters.
All this is happening even as the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has clarified, in the beginning of his term, that he was not in favour of vendetta politics and go by law.
If that is not enough, the Punjab and Haryana High Court is also looking into the cases of “false implication” in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) matters. The state Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora has already issued letters to its field units seeking details of such cases.
AAP senior leader and renowned advocate HS Phoolka said that the party’s volunteers and workers are facing several false cases, besides being harassed.
“Such instances have come to light in the recent past and after discussing with Navkiran Singh (notable Human Rights lawyer), we have decided to restructure the party’s human rights cell and bring together such persons who have expertise in dealing with false cases,” said Phoolka, who is also leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
Phoolka said that till the time, the complete structure was not put in place, he has asked the “aggrieved” volunteers and party workers to contact Navkiran Singh.
Navkiran said that party would soon set up a comprehensive structure, including in all districts, which not only have advocates and lawyers, but may also have human rights activists, or even RTI (Right to Information) activists.
SUKHBIR DEClARES TO lAUNCH MASS MOVEMENT AGAINST VENDETTA POlITICS
Chandigarh: SAD president and Punjab’s former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal on Wednesday stated that the party would launch a mass movement to protest against the vendetta politics unleashed by the Congress.
“SAD would not remain a mute spectator to the brutal repression being unleashed on the party,” he said.
Sukhbir said: “I have already requested Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to restrain his workers from resorting to vendetta politics but it seems my pleas have not had any effect. The SAD will now go to the people and build a movement against these repressive tactics.”
Maintaining that there are many other incidents which had occurred in the State spoke of a wider conspiracy against Akali workers, Sukhbir called for an immediate end to the policy of vendetta unleashed against the SAD.
Already, SAD is working towards constituting panels of lawyers to help party workers allegedly facing false cases. The party has decided to set up panel of lawyers in all the district headquarters and Chandigarh to help the Akali workers in the cases of alleged vendetta by the ruling party.
The panels of lawyers would immediately swing into action, the moment complaints were received from any district and will take all necessary measures to ensure justice.
