Politicians making beeline to Rewari to score brownie points

Leaders of both ruling BJP and the opposition Congress have been making a beeline to the Rewari hospital to visit the victim and her family, apparently to score a political point  over each other.

Haryana Public Works (Building and Roads) Minister, Rao Narbir Singh and All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev met the victim’s family in Rewari on Monday.

Rao Narbir while talking to the mediapersons later said that the family is satisfied with the ongoing investigation and treatment of their daughter. We have assured them fair investigation in the case and assistance from government’s side, he said.

On arrest of the accused in the case, the Minister claimed that absconding accused will be nabbed soon.

The victim’s family had on Sunday rejected the compensation cheque for Rs 2 lakh sent by the Haryana Government.

On the other hand, Congress leader Sushmita Dev lashed out at the Haryana Government and alleged that law and order in the state has broken down completely.

“This is total failure of the government. The Chief Minister Manohar Lal should quit on moral grounds. It is unfortunate that even after repeated failures on the law and order front, the Chief Minister is continuing on his post,” she added.

The Congress has made the gang-rape a major issue and holding protests across the state.

A day before, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had also visited Rewari to meet victim and her family.

Reacting to this, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Monday said that strict action would be taken against the former Chief Minister Hooda and Congress MLA Karan Dalal, for meeting the rape victim in Rewari without the consent of doctors, and, for threatening the doctors attending on her.

Vij said even though the doctors had informed Hooda and Dalal that the victim was not fit to interact with them, they met her. This is against the protocol. They also threatened the doctors which is a step in the direction of causing chaos, he added.

Even the police and the investigation team cannot take statement of the victim without the consent of doctors, but Hooda and Dalal have done this, and knowingly violated the rules. Necessary action would be taken against them after investigation, Vij claimed.
