The Chandigarh Police on Sunday claimed to have solved the murder case of 27 year-old model, Puneet Sandhu, who was found dead at her residence at Punjab and Sind Society, Sector 49 here on October 16.
Chandigarh Police have arrested Amit Chaudhary’s sister, Anju and her friend, Surpreet (24) for murdering Puneet Sandhu, said AS Cheema, DIG UT Police.A day before, the UT Police had booked Amit Chaudhary, who is into event management for the murder of Puneet. Amit was reportedly a live-in partner of Puneet, who hailed from Patiala.
The accused Anju, sister of Amit, resident of Sector 4, Mansa Devi Complex, Panchkula had hatched a conspiracy to kill Puneet and talked about her plan to Supreet and asked him to execute it.
Briefing the details, the DIG Cheema said that it was being suspected that the accused were known to the victim. After the murder took place, Avneet Sandhu (sister of Puneet) had stated to the police that her sister Puneet was having a live-in relationship with one Amit, who is the son of Ram lal a resident of Sector-47, Chandigarh.
Avneet further stated that Amit is already married and was having two children. Amit had also promised to marry her sister after getting divorce from his legally married wife, but did not marry her. The father of Amit, Ram lal had also threatened her sister (Puneet) to leave his son otherwise she will be killed, added Avneet in her statement.
It was found that at the time of discovery of the dead body, Amit was in his Sector 47 house and had been called by his friend Supreet on the pretext of having dinner together at Puneet’s home at Sector-49 which was a rented accommodation and whose rent was being paid regularly by Amit.
Apart from this, Amit had also been at loggerheads with his family and was planning to shift Puneet from her rented apartment to his Sector 47 home which was resented by the members of the family of Amit. Anju, sister of Amit who found Puneet as the main reason for the family discord and an impediment to Amit’s married life, hired Supreet, to kill Puneet, said a police official.
During interrogation, the accused Anju has revealed that she promised an amount of Rs6 lakh to Surpreet as a reward for eliminating Puneet. Out of which, amount of Rs1 lakh was already handed over to him. The weapon of offence, a country made pistol, was bought by Supreet from the amount paid.
On October 16, Supreet after killing Puneet Sandhu contacted Anju on telephone and visited her house at Mansa Devi Complex and also made several telephonic conversations. The accused Supreet and Anju when questioned confessed to the commission of the crime.The accused were produced before the court and sent to police custody for two days.
