Breaking his silence over the allegations of “betraying” gangster Vicky Gounder who was ready to surrender, Punjab police inspector Bikram Brar on Monday denied having any links with the most wanted.
At the same time, gounder’s supporters have threatened to “revenge” his killing in a Facebook post.
Brar, posted as inspector in posted in the Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) of the Punjab police’s intelligence wing, was the member of 23-member team that killed Gounder, Prema lahoria and one of their accomplice in an encounter on January 26 evening.
Gounder’s maternal uncle Gurbhej Singh Sandhu, on Sunday after cremation, had alleged that the encounter was fake and both Vicky Gounder, Prema lahoria along with one of their friends had gone to Abohar area to surrender through Bikram Brar.
Sandhu had further alleged that Bikram was in contact with the deceased through WhatsApp.
He claimed that hours before the news of his encounter, Gounder had called him to inform that he was going to meet Brar, and he cautioned him.
Refuting all allegations of fake encounter, Brar said that he never studied in Jalandhar, and Gounder's family was lying.
Brar claimed that the encounter lasted about 20 minutes and the first information in this regard was first given to Khuiyan Sarwar police station near Abohar and within a few minutes to the Rajasthan police.
“My seniors were present at the encounter site and we were total 23 cops. Now, Rajasthan police is investigating the matter. I never even had service in Jalandhar. Gounder's family is concocting a false story," said Brar.
He cited the 10-year age gap between them. I studied up to Class XII at YPS Patiala and later started practicing boxing at NIS Patiala,” he said, adding that even he had never interrogated them in the past incident, or spoke to them.
Notably, Brar has played a role in the arrest of some gangsters in the past.
His elder brother, Varinderpal Singh Brar, is also serving in the Punjab Police and posted as AIG Vigilance. Their father, Baldev Singh Brar, was also a police officer who was killed by militants during the days of extremism in Punjab.
Brar brothers have some relatives in Abohar area, where Varinder has served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the recent past.
DEATH THREAT TO BRAR
A death threat has been issued to Inspector Bikram Brar through a Facebook post on a page by the name of ‘Vicky Gounder Sarawan Bolda’.
The post, having pictures of Brar and his father, read that Bikram Brar has betrayed Gounder, and he would soon be sent where Gounder is. What they did with Vicky, Prema and Budha was very wrong and we will take revenge very soon, added the post.
THIRD PERSON WAS ATTARI, NOT BUDHA
