The Gurdaspur police on Monday claimed to have solved the mystery of the hijack of a Swift dzire car of Pardeep Saini which had triggered speculations about a terror angle a day before.
The car was hijacked near Aujla Village in Gurdaspur border district. Police also claimed to have nabbed two accused who hijacked the car even as their third accomplice managed to escape.
DIG Border Range Kunwar Partap Singh said that this was just a case of robbery and there was no terror angle to the crime or the involvement of any organised gang. He said that the main culprit was Gurdev Singh of village Chabbal. The second accused is Shelly kumar of village Jora Khurd who now lives in Gurdaspur while the third suspect is Jaskaran who the police claims would be arrested anytime. The DIG said that the trio got a room on rent and worked with a private company. He said they are not professional criminals and initial investigations revealed that the motive of the hijack was only robbery.
DIG Kunwar Partap Singh along with SSP Jagdeep Singh Hundal appealed to the people that they should not panic due to such crimes. Hundal said that Gurdaspur Police has made adequate arrangements to control crime and maintain law and order.
