Crime branch of Chandigarh police on Thursday claimed to have solved the murder case of a 65-year-old man, who went missing since October-25.
The four accused, including two woman, have been arrested and identified as Amit Kumar, his wife Suman, both residents of Sector-40, Jitender Singh and Anita alias Ritu, residents of Sector-56.The deceased, Krishan lal Arora, a resident of Sector-47, went missing on October 25. His family told the police that he went to pay telephone bill, but never returned. A missing report was also lodged with the local police by his family with suspicion on Amit Kumar, who might be involved in his abduction.
Following the complaint, a Special Investigations Team (SIT) was constituted under the supervision of ASP Urvija Goel and DSP Jasbeer Singh.“Amit and Suman were interrogated and they continued to make contradictory statements. However on Thursday, Amit confessed to the son of the deceased that he had murdered complainant’s father and could no longer bear the psychological burden and guilt of the crime he had committed,” said Urvija Goel, ASP Chandigarh police.
He told the police that he along with his wife Suman and two more persons, Anita and Jitender, hatched a plan to murder Krishan to take his expensive gold studded ring.“On October 25, Amit took Krishan to his house at Sector-40 where they strangulated him to death and claim to have disposed of his dead body in a canal near Kiratpur,” police said.
In a statement to police, Amit said he was living in the neighbourhood of Krishan, but later shifted to Sector-56. He told that he always wanted to steal his gold studded ring. Meanwhile the police have arrested all the accused but the dead body has not been traced yet. The police have also not recovered the ring, for which the accused had murdered Krishan.
The accused were produced in the district court where the court sent them to four days of police remand for further investigations.
