PM to visit Bhagat Singh's village on Mar 23

Published on:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Khatkar Kalan — the native village of martyr Bhagat Singh — on his death anniversary on March 23. Modi, during his visit, will pay tribute to the martyr. Khatkar Kalan, in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, was the place from which the ancestors of Bhagat Singh had moved prior to his birth in 1907 and after whom the district is named.

At Khatkar Kalan, ‘Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Museum’ has been built which contains memorabilia, including his half-burnt ashes, the blood-soaked sand and blood-stained newspaper in which the ashes were wrapped.

A page of the first lahore Conspiracy Case’s judgment sentencing Kartar Singh Sarabha to death and on which Bhagat Singh put some notes is also exhibited in the museum. A copy of Bhagavad Gita with Bhagat Singh's signature, which was given to him in lahore Jail, and other personal belongings, are also displayed there.

later, Modi will also pay obeisance at the Sikh’s holiest shrine, Golden Temple, in Amritsar for the first time after becoming the Prime Minister. The information was shared by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during the ongoing budget session of the Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday after the Congress MlAs were questioning whether Modi had ever paid visit to “Darbar Sahib” (Golden Temple).
