Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off the BJP’s poll campaign for upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Haryana’s Kurukshetra on February 12.

The Prime Minster will address “Swachh Shakti 2019” programme in Kurukshetra which will be attended by women sarpanches from across the country.

The State BJP has geared up for the programme and the issue was discussed during the Haryana BJP legislative meeting held under Chief Minister Manohar Lal on Tuesday here.

It was informed at the meeting that the Prime Minister will give away Swachh Shakti awards to top women achievers at the Kurukshetra event. The programme is aimed at recognising their outstanding contribution towards making Swachh Bharat a reality in rural India.

Earlier, the PM had addressed a rally on October 9 in Rohtak. On the same day, he had unveiled the statue of  venerated Jat farmer leader Deenbandhu Sir Chhotu Ram in Rohtak’s Sampla and also laid the foundation stone of Rail Coach Factory to be built on 163 acres in Barahi at Sonepat.

During the party’s legislative meeting, the Chief Minister also took the feedback of MLAs regarding the Jind bypoll. Deliberations were also held regarding holding Lok Sabha polls and assembly polls together in Haryana.

Sources said the BJP will take a final call on the issue after the result of Jind bypoll on January 31. A positive outcome for BJP in Jind bypoll could lead to an early assembly polls, clubbed with Lok Sabha polls 2019. The Assembly polls in Haryana are due to be held in October 2019.

The clean sweep by ruling BJP in municipal polls in Haryana last December had also given rise to speculation that state assembly polls could be advanced and clubbed with Lok Sabha election due to be held in April-May 2019.

In general elections held in April-May 2014, the BJP had won seven out of the eight seats it contested.

The BJP, which was riding high on the Narendra Modi wave in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections had kept up its momentum in the assembly polls later that year bagging 47 seats out of 90.
