Haryana Forests Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Wednesday appealed to the public to plant trees to celebrate their marriage anniversaries and make social occasions and festivals memorable. In a statement issued here, Rao Narbir Singh said that the state-level program of this year's Van Mahotsav will be organized in Gurugram and during the Mahotsav, people will be encouraged to plant ‘triveni’ of Neem, Banyan and Peepal.

He appealed to the public to cooperate and actively involved in the plantation campaign run by the Department during the 69th Van Mahotsav celebrated in July and that every person must plant at least two plants. The Minister said that last year, school students were also encouraged to participate in the Van Mahotsav, and more than 30 lakh plants were planted in educational institutions. It was a great achievement of the Department. During this year's Van Mahotsav, a target has been set to plant one crore saplings, he added.

The change in climate due to global warming is a matter of great concern.

Ecological balance could only be maintained by planting trees and developing forests, he said.
