Pioneer's political tweet analysis

Myriad views filled with strong emotions are the Indian way of expression when the topics are related to elections. One cannot stop them from their constant jibber-jabber. Elections in India bring with themselves a high voltage drama of allegations, counter allegations, some cooked and some made up stories.

The twitter in seconds gets filled with people talking about hundreds of things related to the election, as the parties gear up for ‘Battle Ground 2014’.

Our experts, Ritesh Kumar and Rishemjit Kaur along with their mentor Amol P Bhondekar, data scientists at Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO), Chandigarh took up the task of analysing, these twisted and sometimes horrible looking tweets, to reflect the sentiments of the people towards big political parties namely BJP, Congress, and newbie AAP.

These data scientists from CSIO took some time out from their busy schedule and as a part of an independent project collected many tweets over a period of time. More than 20,000 tweets were mined and manually tagged to mark certain keywords to depict the sentiments of the Twitterati.

The retweets which are published more than once, by the people were filtered, since in the present study, these tweets were unable to convey any information. The tweets collected were thereafter analysed using a sentiment analysis algorithm, which classifies them into positive, negative and neutral tweets.

The sentiments will vary everyday with the trend and happenings in the real world which tickles our Twitterati to chirrup. Everyday more than 60,000 tweets will be mined and analysed by our experts to bring forth the results and trends this election season.
